Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA), also known asmale pattern baldnessor female pattern baldness, is the most common cause of female hair loss. It is usually limited to the front, sides, or crown area of the scalp. Unlike male pattern baldness, hair tends to thin rather than fall out completely. At least 40% of North American women will experience female hair loss by the time they are 40 years old.
Hair Replacement options: Depending on the extent and positioning of the hair thinning, a wearer may opt for a hair extension, hair piece system or wig package that can add fullness and length to fine areas. If the wearer finds they have thinning throughout the hairline and crown area, it's likely best to look into a hair piece system or wig to provide adequate coverage.
Alopecia Totalis
The loss of all head hair. Most of its causes are unclear, but it is currently believed to be an autoimmune disorder. The hair generally does not grow back. In this case, a fitted human hair piece system or full lace wig is the wearer's best option to provide full coverage.
Alopecia Areata
The condition where hair loss is on some or all areas of the body, usually on the scalp, but not excluding eyelashes, arms, legs etc. Called spot baldness due to bald patches in the first stages, 1-2% of cases can spread to entire scalp: Alopecia totalis. 50% of patients’ hair will regrow in roughly a year without any treatment.
Cicatricial alopecia (scarring alopecia) Alopecia involving hair follicles that are completely destroyed and replaced with scar tissue, creating a thicker surface with permanent hair loss. The hair loss in this case is often gradual, without symptoms, which often leads to it going unnoticed for long periods of time.
Hair Replacement Solutions:Depending on the extent and positioning of the female hair loss on the scalp a wearer may opt for either a human hair piece system, full lace wig (small, medium or large) or hair extensions to provide coverage and add fullness to areas where the hair is thinning. Some clients will find that over time, their hair grows successfully underneath the hair piece or system due to less visibility and stress. Installation can be done semi- permanently with a non-invasive and non-damaging micro track that serves as a base that the hair piece or extensions are attached to.
Trichotillomania (TTM) “Trich” as it is commonly known, is an impulse control disorder characterized by the repeated urge to pull out scalp hair, eyelashes, facial hair, nose hair, eyebrows or other body hair, often resulting in noticeable bald patches. This also affects men, although to a lesser degree.
Hair Replacement Solutions: Similar to alopecia and pattern baldness, depending on the extent and positioning of hair loss on the scalp clients may opt for a full lace hair piece package to provide full coverage to the areas where the hair may be thin or missing. We can work around the patches to attach hair to ensure that patches are not visible. We can prepare a piece to cover a patch of any size, whether it be large or small. As we cannot guarantee that this replacement will stop the compulsion, the system can provide a barrier to prevent further pulling to the areas covered.
Cancer Related Hair Loss (Chemotherapy)
Most patients undergoing chemotherapy will experience hair loss within 10 to 21 days after treatment begins. As this sudden loss of hair can be quite a shock to many patients, time and care should be taken to select a human hair piece system or full lace wig that looks natural, is comfortable and easy to style. Chemotherapy patients often opt to go with a colour, length and texture similar to what they have had in the past to ease the transition of the hair loss.
Full lace wigs are best recommended as they are the highest quality wigs on the market. They are formulated to fit the size of your head so that you may preform daily activities, without fear that it will fall off or be seen. Full lace hair systems are individually hand-tied with human hair and with the wearer’s specified length, colour, style and made to look as if hair is growing out of the scalp. The caps are extremely lightweight and breathable – perfect to wear all year, especially during hot summer months.
Hypothyroidism
The thyroid system releases hormones that regulate growth and development through the rate of metabolism. Having both an over active or under active thyroid can cause changes to hair, including differences in texture and thinning throughout the scalp.
Hypotrichosis
A condition in which there is no hair growth. Unlike alopecia, which describes hair loss where formerly there was hair growth, hypotrichosis describes a situation where there was no hair growth in the first place. In this case, a fitted human hair piece or full lace wig is the wearer's best option to provide full coverage.
